Both are pretty straightforward, option b probably easiest. As whurlston pointed out Ton's great work could be continued into NextPVR and into the current plugin format for XBMC NEWA Web services heavy security continue to be the limiting factor for me, XBMC is even going to be available on future devices from Sigma (chip maker for the PCH's) I have another cheap box that runs XBMC with hardware and it isn't to bad. I am running XBMC for Android on the XIOS DS and have only limited problems. There are several alternatives that can do this today.
ts files with comskip and even stream live TV with XBMC with strm files.
